Pure Phase

Spiritualized second LP Pure Phase, which is often skipped over, being between Laser Guided Melodies and Ladies and Gentlemen...brings the looping, symphonic drone touch of Spacemen 3 with the developing Spiritualized sound that would be evolved by the next album. The Hassler

Link
Buy
Clockcleaner's first E.P. The Hassler. Very reminiscent to 90's noise rock, like the Jesus Lizard, with twangy reverb wretched guitars and driving bass, this is where Clockcleaner got their start. Enjoy!

H-P1

Link
Buy
New White Hills on Thrill Jockey. Enjoy!

"Musically, H-p1, White Hills second full-length for Thrill Jockey, expands on the explorations of previous albums in ambience, noise, and space rock all led by guitarist Dave W.’s blistering guitar solos. This is the most fully realized White Hills album to date and the one that takes them furthest from their pure space rock roots. It is also their most angry record. It is a reaction to what White Hills sees as government co-opted and controlled by corporations. It is a wake up call."-Thrill Jockey

Destroy Me, Lover

LinkLink
Industrial/Experimental noise rock from Houston, TX, Pain Teens 1993 Destroy Me Lover. Considered to be one of the greatest industrial records of all time. Scott Ayers song writing is no one trick pony, creating buzzing and screaming guitar noise, yet these songs remain poppy with Bliss Bloods sassy vocals at the forefront. Fans of Swans, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Magik Markers and nothing you've heard before.

The Valerie Project

Link
Buy
The Valerie Project is a collaboration of Philadelphia musicians (Espers, Fern Knights, Grass) reinventing the score of the classic 1970 Czech New Wave film Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, to pay tribute to this seminal film of the new folk movement.

"The Project Series started with a simple concept; that of recontextualising the filmic meaning and impact of a particular work through the substitution of a newly composed soundtrack. The new soundtrack is meant to be performed live to a sound film, with the original soundtrack turned off or the original music removed. This element is unique in that most live film soundtracks are perfromed to silent era films."

Being fronted by Greg Weeks of Espers, any fan of free folk/Avant Garde, will enjoy this project. Highly recommended!

Animals

Link

Pink Floyd's 1977 'Animals', loosely based on George Orwell's 'Animal Farm'. Sandwiched between 'Wish You Were Here' and 'The Wall', Animals is a record often times overlooked, though it is one of there most spacey, "out there" releases. Recorded at the height of the British Punk scene, Animals delivered a "Fuck you", releasing a genius progressive record.

Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus (1963)

Link
Right behind 'The Black Saint and the Sinner lady', 'Five Mingus...' is probably my favorite Mingus release, featuring two of my favorite tunes 'II B.S.' and 'Theme for Lester Young'. In the Impulse year of 1963, Mingus was right on point, delivering three memorable records in under a year.

After consistently jamming "Sleeping & Hiding" over the past few months, I decided to further explore Tor Lundvall's catalog and was not disappointed with "Empty City". Tor is a shining light in the ambient soundscape/post industrial age. Highly recommended. Enjoy!

Pleasure Leftist E.P.

Link

"On their debut six-song 12-inch, Cleveland's Pleasure Leftists bring six tracks of driving, distant post-punk that skirts the monochrome gradient and darkened corridors of early gothic rock and death rock. The first band that we've worked with based on the strength of a demo, PL wowed us immediately with their fully-realized reverbed-out dark vision. The curious need look no further than leadoff track, 'Nature Of Feeling' an exercise in nervous tension featuring an urgent rhythm section, a saw blade-sharp guitar tone, topped with singer Haley Morris' low, morbid howl. The song 'Suits' progresses this sound further with its almost call-to-arms thumping bass. 'Passage on a Ghost Ship' is a mini epic where the vocals push and pull until the song bursts completely open. While many bands are attempting to cash in on the so called trend of 'Nu-Goth,' 'Grave Wave,' or whatever the fuck new dumb Last.Fm tag is invented that day, Pleasure Leftists drop a record that not only leaves all of those goofy bands looking like amateurs, but a record that also sounds fresh and vibrant."-Fan Death
